Presentation and Science Show (PaSS) Training 2017

What is PaSS Training?

The Presentation and Science Show (PaSS) Training Camp is YSA Sydney’s three-day, two-night residential camp, over the course of which you’ll get to learn everything you need to know about becoming an effective and engaging science communicator.

The camp will cover a whole bunch of important points for budding science presenters, including:

  • Having confidence in your presenting ability.
  • Explaining scientific concepts to any audience.
  • Developing your communication and presentation skills.
  • Using scaffolds to develop and run your very own science show.
  • Ensuring your science show is safe.
  • Tip and tricks to manage a crowd.

Throughout the program you will be mentored by experienced YSA members, including our President, who has been in YSA for 10 years. Ultimately, you’ll get to figure out what makes a science show work (and what doesn’t)!

Where and when is PaSS Training happening?

In 2017, PaSS Training will be held at the KCC Kedumba Conference Centre in Katoomba and run from Monday 2 January to Wednesday 4 January.

How do I get there?

The venue address is 119 Cliff Dr, Katoomba NSW 2780, for those travelling by car.

A group of YSA Sydney members will also be taking public transport to the venue together. This page will be updated with train times and meeting areas closer to the date.

What is the cost?

The cost of the camp is $110 for YSA Sydney members and $130 for non-members.

The cost will cover accommodation, food, insurance and science show materials.

(You can join YSA Sydney here or renew your membership here.)

Who can attend PaSS Training?

Anyone between the ages of 14 and 25! No prior experience is required!

By allowing for experienced attendees to assist in the development and running of sessions, the program is designed in such a way that there will be a place for people of ALL levels of skill or experience.

Please note: YSA has a ‘no illicit drugs and alcohol’ policy. Dorms will be separated according to gender.
