YSA Sydney is looking for keen volunteers who are interested in gaining leadership experience and love event planning.  If you have coordinated an event before, such as TCSE, ISS is perfect for you.

About the International Science School

The International Science School (ISS) is two weeks of science lectures, labs, activities and excursions.  YSA provides 150 international delegates in years 11 and 12 from 50 countries  with a jam packed social schedule every day of the two week program.

Your Role

This year there will be two coordinators which provides the opportunity for someone who is newer to YSA and/or has less experience to take on a kind of 2nd-in-Command type role and be mentored by our lead Coordinator.  As an “ISS Socials Coordinator” you will plan out a social for each day of the program to foster students relationships, provide some chill out time or show off our beautiful city.  To do this you will be liaising with the ISS organisers from the University of Sydney.  You will stay on location at Kingcoppal Rose Bay School for the duration of the program, commuting with the delegates to the University of Sydney on a provided bus as required.  In addition, you will also need to train and coordinate the “YSA ISS Socials Staff” for this event.

Ideal Candidate

Anyone is welcome to apply and the most suitable YSA members will be selected.  Useful experience and attributes which would be an asset to your application include:

  • Have coordinated 2 TSE/G&T or equivalent events
  • Helped run a YSA social
  • Previous ISS experience
  • Have ample previous YSA volunteering experience, e.g. SCARS levels 3 to 5
  • Other relevant event coordination experience
  • Confident leader
  • Organised
  • Proactive
  • Have a current Working with Children Check number (if over 18)

Remember you are still welcome to apply regardless of your experience and Working With Children Check numbers may be obtained after you apply.

If selected, you must be available for the duration of the program: Sunday 7th July – Sunday 21st July as well as a training day on Saturday 6th July.
