YSA – Young Scientists of Australia
We are a group of young people aged 14-26 with a shared interest in and enthusiasm for science, and dedication to the promotion and awareness of science in a friendly social environment.
Our motto, “Promoting Science to the Youth of Australia”, indicates our aim – to share our love of science with the rest of Australia’s young population, through the provision of enthusiastic staff for science schools throughout the country, and training our members as effective science communicators through performing science shows. In addition to the business side of things, we hold regular social events such as bushwalks, balls, dinners and excursions to provide our members with a comfortable place to unleash their inner nerd – and their outer nerd, if they so choose.
See “YSA Membership” for more information about joining us.

Frequently Asked Questions.
How much does it cost to join YSA?
YSA costs $15 a year. This gives you exclusive access to YSA socials throughout the year, our quarterly newsletter, access to our online forums, and a group of fellow-minded young individuals, who all share a passion for science.
I don’t study science at University/School. Can I still join?
Of course! We have many members who don’t officially study science – medical students, engineering students and many others studying subjects not even remotely related to science. Everyone is welcome, so long as you have a passion for science and communicating it, and love to have a fun time.
It is hard for me to travel. Where do you meet?
Very few of us have our own transport (mums excluded), so we all feel the need to be close to public transport and central locations. For all our socials and events, we endeavour to choose venues with close access to public transport. For events a little further off the beaten track, we will often meet at a central location, and travel to the destination together. If you have any issues, you can get in contact with us.
I am under 18. Can I still join?
Absolutely. YSA is an organisation for Young Scientists in Australia. We have many members studying in University, but a majority of the membership join while in secondary school. So, YSA offers an excellent opportunity to get to know other like minded people, who can give you advice on study and education. Of course, YSA is a drug, smoke and alcohol free organisation; therefore all our events are suitable for people of all ages.
