Conditions of Use of Computer Facilities

The Information Systems of YSA are provided to allow users to communicate, publicise YSA, share information
and enhance their understanding of computing. The use of these information systems is subject to these Conditions
of Use.
The Conditions of Use of the Computer Facilities of YSA.
- You must abide by all resolutions and rules of YSA Sydney Inc.
and the University of Sydney.
- You must only use the information systems or parts of the
system that you have been authorised to use and only for the purpose
for which the authorisation was given.
- You must not allow any other person to use your access for
any reason and must take all reasonable precautions, including
password maintenance and file protection measures, to prevent
unauthorised access. You must not attempt to discover any other
user's password.
- You must not use the information systems for profit making
or commercial activity unless you have prior written approval
from the YSA Computer Systems Manager.
- You must not access, alter, move or remove information, proprietary,
software or files (including programs, members of sub-routine
libraries, data or electronic mail) without prior written approval
from theYSA Computer Systems Manager (or delegate).
- You must know and observe the terms of the relevant software
licensing agreements and copyright laws.
- You must not offend, harass or threaten another person, nor
store or transmit material designed or likely to do so.
- You must not attempt to repair or interfere with any component
of the information system. All faults or suspected faults must
be reported.
- Your use of external networks connected to the YSA
information systems must comply with the policies of the organisations
responsible for those networks.
- You must never compromise or attempt to compromise the security
of any information system, nor exploit or attempt to exploit any
security deficiency.
- You must not attempt to obtain computer time, disk space,
computer space or other resources unless you are entitled to them.
- You must not install, transmit or use any method, including
software or software virus, that may degrade, damage, sabotage
or subvert any information systems.
- You must notify immediately the YSA Computer Systems Manager
of any breach or suspected breach of the Conditions Of Use.
- You must not undertake any activities that are (or may construed to be) a breach of the
policies, rules, regulations or objects of YSA Sydney Inc., or the University of Sydney. The
Computer Systems Managers of YSA and the Schools of Chemistry and Physics shall be
the final arbiters in such matters.
- You must not use inappropriate methods to disseminate information. This particularly
refers to the practice of spamming (the use of email as a means of distributing
(usually unsolicited) information to large numbers of people). It should be realised that email
is principally a medium for one-to-one (at most one-to-few) communication.
(Note: The use of the designated mailing lists for YSA related discussion is not
regarded as inappropriate.)
YSA Sydney Inc. reserves the right:
- to terminate access for the breach of any of the Conditions of Use;
- to halt, restrict or limit any user's access to information
systems and to inspect, copy, remove or alter any data, file or
system resource which it deems detrimental to the authorised use
of any information system;
- to check periodically any information system or data to
ensure compliance with the Conditions of Use;
- to vary or withdraw any service at any time without notice.
Implimentation of the Conditions of Use
In the first instance, breaches of these Conditions shall be dealt with
by the YSA Computer Systems Manager in accordance with these Conditions.
- Any disputes regarding the decisions made by the YSA Computer
Systems Manager shall be referred to the YSA Sydney Inc. Committee as
defined by the Rules of YSA Sydney Inc.
- If successful resolution cannot be achieved with the committee, the problem shall be
addressed using the dispute handling and discipline measures of YSA Sydney Inc.,
or the University of Sydney (whichever is deemed more appropriate by the YSA
Sydney Inc. Committee).
Disclaimer: YSA Sydney Inc. and the University of Sydney accept
no responsibility (jointly or individually) for:
- loss or damage or consequential loss or damage, arising
from the use of its information systems.
- loss of data or interference with files arising from its
efforts to maintain the information systems.
NOTE: As part of the Acceptable Use Policy you are
also required to agree to the Content Providers Code of Conduct.
