About UsYSA, the Young Scientists of Australia, is a national organization of young people involved in promoting science to their peers. The organization is split into three state-based chapters (Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane), and in total have over a thousand members, aged from thirteen to mid-twenties, spread throughout Australia. Our monthly socials allow members to mix with others who share their interests in science. It's not restricted to those studying science at Uni however; we have musicians, high school students, arts dudes, computer geeks.. and that's just a list of generalized stereotypes. :) A more specific aim of our socials is to link together university science students, and high school students with a general interest in that area. Plasma, our seasonally published newsletter, has a heap of general science-based banter: news, information on upcoming talks/presentations, new research, lots of rectangles, and the occasional triangle. We've recently begun closer activities with Sydney and Brisbane chapters, and it's not unusual to get a feature sent to us to let us know what's happening further north. We're governed by a (currently) twelve member executive committee, who are all voted in at our AGM (held each July). These selfless people all voluntarily administer our finances, membership, website, fiddly bureaucratic incorporation fine print, and general Law and Order. We're always looking for new members, so if you feel the desire awakening in you, don't hesitate to Join Us! |
